This report concerns theevaluation of three Directives that make up the legal framework for pre-packaging.
Mr President, the proposed directive on pre-packaging seems to be a very technical dossier.
In Amendments 1 and 2,the Parliament wanted to reintroduce into the Directive arrangements for pre-packaging ranges.
There is Community legislation on pre-packaging, but the current legal situation is neither satisfactory nor clear.
Should the ongoing impact assessments justify legislation on fixed sizes in certain sectors,the Commission will take this into account in its proposal on pre-packaging, which is scheduled for 200465.
For example, the proposal on pre-packaging aims at preventing obstacles to trade because of the maintenance of national requirements.
At this stage it has only adopted legislation aiming at alignment in thefields of legal metrology(non-automatic weighting equipment) and pre-packaging and equipment used in potentially explosive atmospheres ATEX.

The study foreseen in article 6(5)a of the Ecolabel regulationdealing with additional aspects such as processing, pre-packaging, packaging and transport, which will examine the feasibility of the extension of the scope of the Ecolabel Regulation to food, including the products of fishing and aquaculture, will not influence or prejudge the adoption of this Regulation.
Article 7 Quick-frozen foodstuffs intended for supply to the ultimate consumer must be packed by the manufacturer orpacker in suitable pre-packaging which protects them from microbial or other forms of external contamination and against drying.
