Mr President, I would like to give colleagues a short update on where we stand on this important proposal.
The Committee asks the Commission to carefully evaluate this important proposal, notably with respect to the upcoming EU obligations in the implementation and monitoring of SDGs.
Mr President, first of all I would like to welcome Parliament's support for this important proposal.
The Commission does notwish to stand in the way of a majority agreement on this important proposal that would establish a harmonised legal framework ensuring that passengers on vessels receive adequate compensation in the event of an accident.
I am pleased to see the verystrong support from the Committee on Fisheries on the substance of this important proposal.
At that stage, having also examined the Opinion of the European Parliament,the Council intends to take a decision on this important proposal and to adopt some conclusions in relation to the Commission's report on the quality strategy which accompanies the proposal. .
While this perception was wrong,it did not go away, and poisoned the debate on this important proposal.
As you all know,much progress has been made over the last month on this important proposal as a result of joint efforts.
Let me specifically express my appreciation to the rapporteur and to the members of the Committee on the Environment,Public Health and Consumer Policy for all their hard work on this important proposal.
If everybody maintains an open and constructive approach,we can steer this important proposal to a successful conclusion.
Mr President, I wish to begin by thanking the Committee on Transport and Tourism and, in particular, Mr Watts,for the quick and thorough work on the Council's common position on this important proposal.
I am pleased tonote the strong support of the Committee on Fisheries on this important proposal to prevent, deter and eliminate IUU fishing.
I am very pleased to see the very strong support of the Fisheries Committee and the support of Parliament on the substance of this important proposal.
Commenting on the adoption of the proposal, Commissioner Bjerregaard stressscd that:"This important proposal is on the cutting edge of environmental protection.
The key ambition of the Commission's initial proposal therefore remains justified, and I applaud Parliament and, in particular, your rapporteur, Mr Fjellner,on taking this important proposal forward.
In any case, as Ihave mentioned before, they will be very much present in the future institutional debates on this important proposal and so the debate on these central issues is far from being closed.
I wish to underline again that the valuable efforts made by the European Parliament and in particular by the rapporteur, Mr Zappalà, and the shadow rapporteurs have beenessential for the successful outcome of this negotiation and the final adoption of this important proposal.
