Thank you for your letter of 27 June 2012 informing me of your Government's acceptance of the joint African Union/League of Arab States/United Nations proposal for access to provide and deliver humanitarian assistance to war-affected civilians in South Kordofan and Blue Nile States(the proposal), as well as the copy of the African Union press release on the tripartite proposal.
It strongly urged both the Government of the Sudan andSPLM-N to accept the tripartite proposal of the African Union, the United Nations and the League of Arab States for the provision of humanitarian aid to civilians in both Government- and rebel-controlled territories.
In this regard, I have the pleasure to enclose herewith a copy of the letter dated 12 July 2012 addressed to me by the Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator, Ms. Valerie Amos,in which she welcomed the acceptance by the Government of the Sudan of the tripartite proposal, and reaffirmed the United Nations commitment to work in close coordination with the Government of the Sudan to provide humanitarian assistance.
However, before going to the Security Council with the required tripartite proposal for the export/import mechanism, the members of the Committee preferred to see a more detailed list of items to be reported than already appeared in the relevant annexes to the Commission's plan for ongoing monitoring and verification.
