Article 2 of Directive 2006/54/EC of the EuropeanParliament and of the Council of 5 July 2006 on the implementation of the principle of equal opportunities and equal treatment of men and women in matters of employment and occupation provides:(7).
There are already a number of existing legal instruments for the implementation of the principle of equal treatment which cover self-employment activities, in particular Council Directive 79/7/EEC on the progressive implementation of the principle of equal treatment for men and women in matters of social security19 and Directive 2006/54/EEC of the European Parliament andof the Council on the implementation of the principle of equal opportunities and equal treatment of men and women in matters of employment and occupation(recast)20.

A number of directives have been adopted pursuing the treaty's objectives,such as Directive 2006/54/EC on the implementation of the principle of equal opportunities and equal treatment of men and women in matters of employment and occupation(recast), Directive 2000/78/EC establishing a general framework for equal treatment in employment and occupation, and Directive 2000/43/EC implementing the principle of equal treatment between persons irrespective of racial or ethnic origin.
(ii) Together with the relevant agencies, the Commission should issue guidelines specifying that transgender andintersex persons are covered under'sex' in Directive 2006/54/EC on the implementation of the principle of equal opportunities and equal treatment of men and women in matters of employment and occupation.

No breach of Article 14 of Directive 2006/54/EC of the European Parliament andof the Council of 5 July 2006 on the implementation of the principle of equal opportunities and equal treatment of men and women in matters of employment and occupation can be identified under the circumstances of the main proceedings.
Member States shall take the necessary measures to ensure that the body or bodies designated in accordance with Article 20 of Directive 2006/54/EC of the European Parliament andof the Council of 5 July 2006 on the implementation of the principle of equal opportunities and equal treatment of men and women in matters of employment and occupation(recast) are also competent for the promotion, analysis, monitoring and support of gender balance on the boards of listed companies.
