To improve datasets on  speciation,in cooperation with the Task Force on  Measurements and Modelling and the Expert Group on Particulate Matter;

In addition, the Executive Body will have available, inter alia, a report by the Working Group on Effects, a report by the Task Force on  Hemispheric Transport of Air Pollution, and a report by the Expert Group  on Particulate Matter.

An Expert Group on Particulate Matter and a Task Force on  Hemispheric Transport of Air Pollution washad been established to deal with these two priority areas of work that were linked to review of the Gothenburg Protocol.
Ms. M. Wichmann-Fiebig(Germany)Co-Chair of the Expert Group  on Particulate Matter, reported on  the first meeting of the Expert Group.
A member of the secretariat drew attention to relevant matters  from the twenty-second session of the Executive Body noting the establishment of new bodies:the Task Force on  Heavy Metals, the Task Force on  Hemispheric Transport of Air Pollution and the Expert Group on Particulate Matter.

The recent reports by the World Health Organization that fine particles can have very significant adverse effects on  human health have prompted the Executive Body to establish the Expert Group on Particulate Matter to consider the issue of PM and how it might be addressed through a future protocol.

Mr. K. BULL, Chief of the Pollution Prevention Team of the UNECE Environment and Human Settlements Division, provided information on  the present status of the Convention and its protocols and the main decisions of the twenty-second session of the Executive Body, including the setting up of the Task Force on  Hemispheric Transport of Air Pollution,the Task Force on  Heavy Metals and the Expert Group on Particulate Matter.
It welcomed the cooperation with the Expert Group on Particulate Matter and encouraged the centres to continue to contribute to its work.
More detailed information on  particular aspects of the review will be provided in informal documents by,inter alia, the Task Force on  Hemispheric Transport of Air Pollution(interim report), the Expert Group on Particulate Matter(final report), and the Task Force on  Integrated Assessment Modelling report on  the Protocol review.
Ms. M. WICHMANN-FIEBIG, Co-Chair of the Expert Group  on Particulate Matter, informed the Steering Body about the results of the first meeting of the Expert Group.
Furthermore, the Task Force on  Health contributed to the first meeting of the newly established Expert Group on Particulate Matter under the Working Group on  Strategies and Review.
She expressed the interest of the Expert Group on Particulate Matter in the PM assessment report and requested that a preliminary draft of the report be presented to its meeting in early 2007, if available.
The Working Group  adopted the provisional agenda as contained in document EB. AIR/WG.5/77 whilst agreeing to include under item 4 a proposal to establish an expert group on particulate matter(PM) and under item 5 discussions on  the differences between the revised and the previous emission reporting guidelines.
Ms. M. Wichmann-Fiebig, Co-Chair of the Expert Group  on Particulate Matter, informed the Steering Body about the future work of the Expert Group and expressed its appreciation for the contribution made by EMEP to its work.
Main activities and time schedule:As agreed by the Executive Body at its twenty-second session, the Expert Group on Particulate Matter, with[Germany] as lead country[and XXX as a co-chair], will hold[a] meeting[s] in 2005.
Ms. M. Wichmann-Fiebig,Co-Chair of the Expert Group  on Particulate Matter(PM), noted work by the Expert Group that had discussed several options for addressing PM in the review and for possible revision of the Protocol EB. AIR/WG.5/2005/8.
Main activities and time schedule:As agreed by the Executive Body at its twenty-second session, the Expert Group on Particulate Matter, with Germany and the United Kingdom as lead countries, will hold its first meeting in 2005.
The Co-Chair of the Expert Group  on Particulate Matter, Ms. M. Wichmann-Fiebig(Germany), presented the results of the second and third meetings of the Expert Group, drawing attention to the transboundary character of PM and its significant health effects.
It also welcomed the cooperation with the Expert Group on Particulate Matter and encouraged the centres to continue to contribute to its work.
