The Panel will consider proposals to be prepared by the informal high-level Inter-Agency Task Force on Forests on possible inter-agency and secretariat arrangements to support the work of such a forum and the information to be prepared by the Secretariat on the possible organizational modalities of its functioning, including financial implications.

The Intergovernmental Forum on Forests draws, inter alia, on the resources andtechnical expertise of the informal, high-level Inter-Agency Task Force on Forests and other appropriate organizations within and outside the United Nations system, as well as secretariats of relevant conventions, with appropriate contributions from non-governmental organizations.
Information on this topic was provided in the reports of the Secretary-General on forest-related work of international and regional organizations(E/CN.17/IFF/1998/5) and forest-related work under existing instruments(E/CN.17/IFF/1998/11), which included descriptions of institutions and instruments andopportunities for potential institutional synergies to support the IFF process among members of the informal, high-level Inter-Agency Task Force on Forests, as well as other international organizations.
The Panel also requested the informal high-level Inter-agency Task Force on Forests to prepare for its consideration proposals for possible inter-agency and secretariat arrangements to support the work of an intergovernmental policy forum, and requested the Secretariat to provide information on the possible organizational modalities of the functioning of such a forum, including financial implications.
