Maintenance mode works somewhat differently on a volume in Cluster Shared Volumes than it does on other disks in cluster storage.
Cluster Shared Volumes are volumes in a failover cluster that multiple nodes can read from and write to at the same time.
If new storage is used, you must handle copying ormoving of data or folders on your shared volumes during a migration.
In contrast, in a failover cluster on which Cluster Shared Volumes is not enabled, a single disk(LUN) can only be accessed by a single node at a time.
The Cluster Shared Volumes feature is only supported for use with Hyper-V(a server role in Windows Server 2008 R2) and other technologies specified by Microsoft.

A feature of failover clusters called Cluster Shared Volumes is specifically designed to enhance the availability and manageability of virtual machines.
Specify a name for the virtual machine, and then select Store the virtual machine in a different location andspecify a disk in shared storage or, if Cluster Shared Volumes is enabled, a Cluster Shared Volume(a volume that appears to be on the system drive of the node, under the\ClusterStorage folder).
If the disk you clicked is under Cluster Shared Volumes and contains one volume, click Maintenance, and then click Turn on maintenance mode for this volume. .
If you want to test disks that you have configured as Cluster Shared Volumes, you must explicitly take those disks offline, as described in the following procedure.
If the disk you clicked is under Cluster Shared Volumes and contains multiple volumes, click Maintenance, and then click the command for the appropriate volume. .
Maintenance mode works somewhat differently on a volume in Cluster Shared Volumes than it does on other disks in cluster storage, as described in Additional considerations, later in this topic.
