(Balaam intended to curse Israel).
One of the more enigmatic Biblical figures is the prophet Balaam.
Balaam was what people today call a Kurd.
In fact, the plan to destroy the Israelites was masterminded by Balaam.
They came to Balaam and told him Balak's words.
This name seemed to monks accordant to the name of the Bible prophet andthey called it Balaam.
Balaam witnessed the success of his diabolical scheme.
And the princes of Moab rose up, and they went unto Balak,and said, Balaam refuseth to come with us.
Balaam answered the donkey,“You have made a fool of me of me!
In the book of Numbers the name Sh-ddai appears only twice,both times in connection to the prophecy of Balaam.
Balaam knew that his curse could not harm Israel.
Forsaking the right way, they went astray,having followed the way of Balaam the son of Beor, who loved the wages of wrongdoing;
Balaam acknowledged the true God, and professed to serve Him;
Which have forsaken the right way, and are gone astray,following the way of Balaam the son of Bosor, who loved the wages of unrighteousness;
And Balak and Balaam offered on every altar a bullock and a ram.
Yet the inscription caneasily be seen as a demonstration that the memory of Balaam the seer survived long after his demise.
And they came to Balaam and spoke to him the words of Balak.
Some believe that the name comes from the name of a pagan god Baal(sometimes identified with Slavic Veles)or a biblical prophet Balaam.
Numbers 24:2 records Balaam blessing Israel under influence of God's spirit.
And Balaam rose up, and went and returned to his place: and Balak also went his way.
They have left the straight way andwandered off to follow the way of Balaam son of Beor, who loved the wages of wickedness.”(2 Peter 2:15).
And Balak did as Balaam had said, and offered a bullock and a ram on every altar.
Balaam also the son of Beor, the soothsayer, did the children of Israel slay with the sword among them that were slain by them.
Balak hired the prophet Balaam to curse Israel, but after seven attempts, he had to admit he could not do it.
And Balaam said unto Balak, Build me here seven altars, and prepare me here seven bullocks and seven rams.
In the end, Balaam does not curse the Israelites but bestows blessings upon them.
But Balaam answered and said unto Balak, Told not I thee, saying, All that the LORD speaketh, that I must do?
Thus, Balaam- not just a product of nature, but also a monument to Labour ordinary people, whose names were unknown.
And Balaam rose up in the morning, and said unto the princes of Balak, Get you into your land: for the LORD refuseth to give me leave to go with you.
Since 1979, Balaam turned into historical-architectural and natural Museum-reserve, receives tourists and pilgrims from Russia and many other countries.
