The Agreement on the European Economic Area(EEA) and the Protocol adjusting the Agreement on the European Economic Area27 entered into force on 1 January.

They wUl welcome Swiss participation in the EEA andwül be ready to enter into negotiations if Switzerland submits an application according to Article 128 of the EEA Agreement as modified by the Protocol Adjusting the EEA Agreement.

THE EEA JOINT COMMITTEE, Having regard to the Agreement on the European Economic Area(EEA), as adjusted by the Protocol Adjusting the Agreement on the European Economic Area, hereinafter together referred to as the Agreement, and in particular Article 98 thereof.
The Protocol adjusting the EEA Agreement, which was made necessary by the negative result of the Swiss referendum of 6 December 1992, comprises the following main elements.
The term'EFTA States' means the Republic of Austria, the Republic of Finland, the Republic of Iceland, the Kingdom of Norway, the Kingdom of Sweden and,under the conditions laid down in Article 1(2) of the Protocol Adjusting the Agreement on the European Economic Area, the Principality of Liechtenstein;

Purpose: to apply tariff concessions granted to Estonia on an au tonomous andtransitional basis from 1 July 2003 pending the entry into force of the protocol adjusting the trade aspects of the Europe agreement establishing an association between the European Com munities and their Member States and Estonia.

EEA" shall mean the European Economic Area as defined in the Agreement on the European Economic Area concluded on 2 May 1992 between the European Community and its Member States and the Member States of the European Free Trade Association,as amended by the Protocol adjusting the Agreement on the European Economic Area of 17 March 1993.

The Protocol adjusting the trade aspects of the Europe Agreement establishing an association between the European Communities and their Member States, of the one part, and Romania, of the other part, to take account of the outcome of negotiations between the Parties on new mutual agricultural concessions, is hereby approved on behalf of the European Community.
THE REPUBLIC OF FINLAND, THE REPUBLIC OF ICELAND, THE PRINCIPALITY OF LIECHTENSTEIN, THE KINGDOM OF NORWAY, THE KINGDOM OF SWEDEN, hereinafter referred to as"the EFTA States", meeting at Brussels,this seventeenth day of March in the year one thousand nine hundred and ninety-three for the signature of the Protocol Adjusting the Agreement on the European Economic Area, have adopted the foUowing texts.
Council Decision 2003/18/EC(8),which approved the Protocol adjusting the trade aspects of the Europe Agreement establishing an association between the European Communities and their Member States, of the one part, and Romania, of the other part, to take account of the outcome of negotiations between the Parties on new mutual agricultural concessions, repealed Regulation(EC) No 2435/2000.

Whereas the Protocol adjusting trade aspects of the Europe Agreement between the European Communities and their Member States, of the one part, and the Republic of Bulgaria, of the other part, should be approved with a view to taking account of the accession of the Republic of Austria, the Republic of Finland and the Kingdom of Sweden to the European Union and the outcome of the Uruguay Round negotiations on agriculture, including improvements to the existing preferential arrangements;
The first improvements to the preferential arrangements of the Europe Agreement with Bulgaria were provided for in the Protocol adjusting trade aspects of the Europe Agreement to take account of the accession of the Republic of Austria, the Republic of Finland and the Kingdom of Sweden to the European Union and the outcome of the Uruguay Round negotiations on agriculture, including improvements to the existing preferential arrangements, approved by Council Decision 1999/278/EC2.
The Protocol adjusting trade aspects of the Europe Agreement between the European Communities and their Member States, of the one part, and the Republic of Bulgaria, of the other part, to take account of the accession of the Republic of Austria, the Republic of Finland and the Kingdom of Sweden to the European Union and the outcome of the Uruguay Round negotiations on agriculture, including improvements to the existing preferential arrangements is hereby approved on behalf of the Community.
Having regard to Council Decision 2003/263/EC of 27 March 2003 on the signature and conclusion of a Protocol adjusting the trade aspects of the Europe Agreement establishing an association between the European Communities and their Member States, of the one part, and the Republic of Poland, of the other part, to take account of the outcome of negotiations between the parties on new mutual agricultural concessions(1), and in particular Article 3 thereof.
Relating to the conclusion of a Protocol adjusting trade aspects of the Europe Agreement between the European Communities and their Member States, of the one part, and the Republic of Bulgaria, of the other part, to take account of the accession of the Republic of Austria, the Republic of Finland and the Kingdom of Sweden to the European Union and the outcome of the Uruguay Round negotiations on agriculture, including improvements to the existing preferential arrangements.
Having regard to Council Decision 2003/18/EC of 19 December 2002 on the conclusion of a Protocol adjusting the trade aspects of the Europe Agreement establishing an association between the European Communities and their Member States, of the one part, and Romania, of the other part, to take account of the outcome of negotiations between the parties on new mutual agricultural concessions(1), and in particular Article 3(2) thereof.
Council Decision 2003/285/EC(6), which approved the Protocol adjusting the trade aspects of the Europe Agreement establishing an association between the European Communities and their Member States, of the one part, and the Republic of Hungary, of the other part, to take account of the outcome of negotiations between the Parties on new mutual agricultural concessions, repealed Council Regulation(EC) No 1408/20027.
Having regard to Council Decision 2003/298/EC of 14 April 2003 on the conclusion of a Protocol adjusting the trade aspects of the Europe Agreement establishing an Association between the European Communities and their Member States, of the one part, and the Czech Republic, of the other part, to take account of the outcome of negotiations between the Parties on new mutual agricultural concessions(2), and in particular Article 3(2) thereof.
