The United Nations Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice Programme network of institutes started contributing to that policy objective in 1990.
On the recommendation of the GoverningBoard, the Institute has strengthened cooperation with other members of the United Nations Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice Programme network of institutes.
It is also a member of the United Nations Programme Network of Institutes and engages with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime during sessions of the Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice.
A related one-day workshop, on the theme" Criminal justice reform: lessons learned, community involvement and restorative justice", was organized by the United Nations Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice Programme Network of Institutes during that session.
Also requests the Secretary-General to prepare, in cooperation with the United Nations Crime Prevention andCriminal Justice Programme Network of Institutes, a discussion guide for the regional preparatory meetings for the Eleventh Congress for the consideration of the Commission, and invites Member States to be involved actively in that process;
(h) Consider requesting UNODC policy, legal and technical assistance when embarking on national reform efforts in order to make use of the acquired expertise and good practicesof UNODC and the United Nations crime prevention and criminal justice programme network of institutes;
ICAR, which is part of the non-profit Basel Institute on Governance anda member of the United Nations Programme Network of Institutes on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice, became operational in 2007.
Requests the Secretary-General to take all necessary measures to provide adequate support to the Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice, as the principal policy-making body in this field, in performing its activities,including cooperation and coordination with the United Nations Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice Programme Network of Institutes and other relevant bodies;
UNODC also assisted the Raoul Wallenberg Institute of Human Rights and Humanitarian Law, located in Lund, Sweden, a member of the United Nations crime prevention andcriminal justice programme network of institutes, in conducting its training for judicial academies of the Middle East and North Africa in Amman on 20 and 21 September 2010.
The Helsinki Institute for Crime Prevention and Control affiliated with the United Nations(HEUNI) and the Arab Security Studies and Training Centre(ASSTC) sponsored the participation of the Officer-in-Charge of theAfrican Institute in the eighth Joint Coordination Meeting of the United Nations Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice Programme Network of Institutes.
For example, in Australia, the Government has worked closely with the Australian Institute of Criminology, a member of the United Nations Crime Prevention andCriminal Justice Programme network of institutes, in developing its crime prevention programmes and monitoring and evaluating them.
(g) UNODC to take stock of online international criminal justiceeducation courses in cooperation with the United Nations Programme network of institutes, with a view to establishing a clearing house of available degree and non-degree programmes worldwide and identifying them for selected technical assistance projects, with special reference to developing countries and countries in post-conflict situations;
New partnerships are being sought, while existing arrangements with member States, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime(UNODC), the General Assembly,the United Nations Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice Programme network of institutes, academic and professional organizations and civil society.
There was consensus that the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, in cooperation with the United Nations Crime Prevention andCriminal Justice Programme network of institutes, should, in accordance with the implementation guidelines on technical assistance proposed by the meeting, provide technical assistance to enhance the capacity of requesting States to prevent and combat both terrorist acts and other forms of serious crime simultaneously.
(k) New initiatives in and methods for delivering technical assistance need to be explored, such as modern online delivery of assistance; encouraging Governments to include legislative representatives in technical assistanceactivities; increased use of partnerships with the United Nations Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice Programme network of institutes; and mentorships for criminal justice officials.
Requests the Secretariat to report to the Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice at its twelfth session on the outcome of its discussion with the United Nations Crime Prevention andCriminal Justice Programme Network of Institutes regarding their possible contribution to the implementation of the plans of action, pursuant to resolution 56/261;
(j) New initiatives in and methods of delivering technical assistance need to be explored, such as modern online delivery of assistance; encouraging Governments to include legislative representatives in technical assistanceactivities; increased use of partnerships with the United Nations Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice Programme network of institutes; and mentorship for criminal justice officials.
(b) Technical assistance and fundraising. TheCentre for International Crime Prevention and the United Nations Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice Programme network of affiliated institutes should prepare, in consultation with Member States, a global programme on crime prevention in order to implement pilot technical assistance projects, including research and capacity-building, in developing countries and countries with economies in transition in the context of good governance and to take action to mobilize funds for that purpose.

To that end, the Programme network of affiliated and associated institutes should be given additional support.
Notes the work of the crime prevention and criminal justice programme on collecting and disseminating data and other information on technical cooperation projects, and requests the Secretary-General further to strengthen the capacity of the Secretariat to establish and develop relevant databases,by cooperating in this endeavour with the United Nations Development Programme and the network of institutes cooperating with the United Nations crime prevention and criminal justice programme;
Several of the institutes of the Programme network also contributed to the study.
Nine presentations were made at the workshop by representatives of the institutes of the Programme network.
The First Vice-Chairman, in his opening remarks, noted that the Workshop had beendesigned to take advantage of the global expertise of the institutes of the Programme network.
Nine papers were presented at the workshop by various institutes of the Programme network, representing all regions.
The activities carried out by the institutes of the Programme network were much appreciated.
Accordingly, all the institutes of the Programme network are fully involved in the organization of the workshops.

Other institutes within the programme network, particularly the Australian Institute of Criminology, have been generous in their assistance to the African Institute in this regard.
