In an extended partition, numerous numbers of logical drives can be created.
Logical partitions in an extended partition can be arbitrary.
Extended partitions can then be subdivided into one or more logical disks.
Instead, you create one or more logical drives within the extended partition.
The Extended Partition cannot be used directly and it must be parted into several logical drives.
Data is stored in the logical partitions within the extended partition.
An extended partition is not bootable, but may be subdivided into multiple logical partitions. .

Therefore, you could create one extended partition, covering the entire drive, and within it create many logical partitions. .
If more than four magnet disks blocks are required on a hard disk, then extended partitions are required.
Unlike primary partitions, you do not format an extended partition with a file system and then assign a drive letter to it.
In traditional magnet disks management, a hard disk is divided into two categories:primary partition and extended partition.
Because of this, the fourth partition is typically set up as an“extended partition”, in which“logical partitions” can be created.
So if you want more than four partitions on an IDE drive, you will lose one partition number to the extended partition.

A disk may contain up to four primary partitions(only one of which can be active),or three primary partitions and one extended partition.
Because basic disks using GPT partitioning do not limit you to four partitions, you do not need to create extended partitions or logical drives.
For resizing, starting with Windows Vista,Microsoft has added built-in features for shrinking or extending partitions.
