Creating awareness is important for intergenerational solidarity, not just calls for equality and intergenerational responsibility, but their complementary effects will allow us to create public policies that will close the generation gap in the society.

On Thursday, 7 November 2019 at the Red Cross of Serbia premises, a Conference“Intergenerational solidarity between the family and the state” was organised to present results of three research studies implemented in 2019.

The Red Cross of Serbia, with support of the Office of the Minister without portfolio responsible for demographics and population policy started implementation of the project focusing on research on volume and contents of family-based support in the Republic of Serbia as well as on developing recommendations to improve public policy andraise the public awareness on the importance of intergenerational solidarity in families and communities as important elements in development of a society.

This year's event aims to promote positive image of ageing and older people, their needs and capacities,the importance of intergenerational solidarity and humane, dignified life in the older age.
Dr Slavica Djukic Dejanovic spoke about the trend of demographic ageing andthe changing structure of families that together make intergenerational solidarity in all societies, communities and families even more important.
This year's event will be another opportunity to provide better conditions for exercising the right of the child to the development filled with love, understanding and respect,which can be achieved by encouraging intergenerational solidarity and cooperation.
