The PRESIDENT: Before calling on the next speaker, I should like to inform delegations that I have received a letter dated 1 October 1993 from Mr. Ibrahim Gambari, Chairman of the Special Committee against Apartheid, requesting that the General Assembly take up consideration of agenda item 38," Elimination of apartheid and establishment of a united, democratic and non-racial South Africa", during the period of the general debate in order to consider a draft resolution on the lifting of all economic sanctions against South Africa.
In this connection, I should like to inform the Committee that 100 Member States and four observer delegations participated in the general debate.
Before giving the floor to the first speaker on my list, I should like to inform you that my consultations with delegations and groups of delegations indicate a broad measure of support for my proposal concerning the appointment of three special coordinators on procedural issues.
The Chairman: I should like to inform the Committee that, following extensive consultations with individual delegations and groups of delegations, the officers of the Committee have concluded that the Committee's work has been considerably improved and rationalized in the course of the past several years.
In this regard, my delegation should like to inform the Assembly that Indonesia is currently in the process of ratifying the Agreement for the establishment of the Indian Ocean Tuna Commission IOTC.
