The objectives of the trust fund will be to receive and mobilize resources in a stable, sustained and predictable manner to develop sustainable consumption and production programmes in developing countriesand countries with economies in transition, as appropriate, and to promote the transparent allocation of resources;
Integrated initiatives and approaches,such as regional and national sustainable consumption and production programmes, the strategic approach to international chemicals management, environmental and social management plans, as well as integrated transport master plans, provide a unique opportunity for tackling cross-cutting issues and challenges in a holistic and optimal manner.
In Africa, the secondphase pilot countries under the African 10-Year Framework Programme on Sustainable Consumption and Production- Burkina Faso, Ghana, Uganda and Zambia- have developed their own national sustainable consumption and production programmes, endorsed by their respective Governments,and implemented some of the priority projects identified in the programmes. .
Advisory services to support national governments promote the uptake and implementation of sustainable consumption and production programmes targeted at mainstreaming environment in development, such as the Circular Economy, which will result in embedding sustainable consumption and production thinking and action within key institutions at the national level( 4 countries),( GC.20/19 E, GC.22/6, GC.22/7, GC.22/8, GC.23/10), external partners: European Union countries, Sweden, Switzerland, Norway, Marrakech countries.
Overall, the activity has led to enhanced expertise and capacity to develop and implement national and local sustainable consumption and production programmes, better preparedness of the African region to participate inand contribute to the eighteenth session of the Commission on Sustainable Development, and an increased awareness of sustainable consumption and production and related issues among stakeholders.
