In mid-September 1996,the Assembly had decided to extend until 31 October 1996 the commitment authorization granted to the Secretary-General in the amount of some $2.6 million gross per month.
It proposed that in each case a draft resolution submitted by one delegation should be distributed, thus obviating the need to hold lengthy informal consultations, since in the case of thoseoperations the Advisory Committee ' s recommendations on commitment authorizations and assessed contributions could simply be accepted.
For this purpose the Secretary-General, in paragraph 25(b) of his report,is seeking commitment authorization at a monthly rate of $11,234,500 gross($10,870,830 net) from the General Assembly.

The report before the Committee, covering a bridging period until the commencement of the new cycle on 1 July 1996,reflected a commitment authorization at a monthly rate of $10.7 million, representing a 4.1 per cent decrease as a result of the streamlining of UNIFIL over the period 1 February to 30 April 1996.
