Technical knowledge on social norms and addressing harmful traditional practices was shared with the Committee on the Rights of the Child andthe Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women to help to ensure that the knowledge is reflected in a future joint general comment of the Committees on harmful practices.
Some other member States/groups consider that the Human Rights Committee and the Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination should consult with States and stakeholders andconsider elaborating a joint general comment on the issue of incitement to hatred in the framework of their respective competence and bearing in mind article 19 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights.
Given the interrelated and overlapping nature of various grounds and forms of discrimination, the treaty bodies are encouraged to strengthen their collaboration in various ways, across areas andat different levels through, for example, a joint general comment on discrimination or joint days of general discussion.
The Human Rights Committee and the Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination could consult with States and stakeholders andpossibly consider elaborating a joint general comment on the issue of advocacy and incitement to hatred, as enshrined in the above-mentioned articles, in the framework of their respective competencies and bearing in mind article 19 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights.
