The activities under this section are undertaken to implement subprogramme 4, Technological innovations policies, of programme 40, Administrative direction and management, of major programme X, Administrative services, of the medium-term plan for the period 1992-1997, as revised A/47/6/Rev.1.
The activities under this section also relate to implementation of the United Nations Programme of Action for the Least Developed Countries and the full mobilization and coordination, in close cooperation with UNCTAD, of all organs, organizations and bodies of the United Nations system for the purpose of implementation of and follow-up to the Programme of Action.
While it was recognized that the activities under this section were by their nature difficult to describe precisely, concern was expressed about the difficulty in assessing whether there existed duplication and/or overlap between the activities carried out under this section and similar activities carried out under other relevant sections of the proposed programme budget for the biennium 2000-2001.
A summary of the estimates of gross andnet revenue, by individual activity under this section, is contained in table IS3.4 and explained in paragraph IS3.5 of the budget document.
