Diazepam Since 2010, annual seizures of diazepam mostly consisting of less than 1 kg per country( sold under various brand names that include“ Relanium” and“ Valium”) have been reported in a number of regions such as Europe, Central Asia and Transcaucasian countries, South and Central America, South Asia, East and South-East Asia, Africa, and the Near and Middle East.
The Netherlands recorded the largest annual seizures of herbal cannabis in Europe in 1995, accounting for 74 per cent of the European total, while Belgium, France, Germany and Norway also seized substantial amounts of cannabis herb, together accounting for a further 20 per cent of the total seized in Europe.
Despite some fluctuations in annual seizures of cannabis herb, the underlying trend in Europe during recent years is one of gradual increase, with seizures reaching 184 tons in 2011(see figure III). However, seizures have remained lower than levels recorded between 2001 and 2002 when European countries seized over 200 tons of cannabis per year.
Figure X shows annual seizures in eastern Europe and CIS as a proportion of annual seizures in Europe over the period from 1990 to 1995. The term" eastern Europe and CIS" as used here includes Albania, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Republic of Moldova, Romania, Russian Federation, Slovakia, Slovenia, the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Ukraine and Yugoslavia; the term" Europe" includes all other European countries.
