The multinational maritime force could host a quick-reaction force that would support AMISOM forces at the request of the AU Force Commander and could support UNPOS peace-process-related missions in Somalia.
Nevertheless, the removal of chemical weapons material from the Syrian Arab Republic did commence on 7 January 2014, when a first quantity of priority chemical materials was moved from storage sites to theport of Latakia and subsequently loaded onto a cargo vessel of the multinational maritime transport operation.
If a separate and independent multinational maritime force is established, its mandate and tasks would be coordinated with other maritime operations currently involved in anti-piracy tasks and in escorting WFP shipping.
In my previous report, I noted that the European Union Naval Force was in the process of putting in place various mechanisms that would facilitate the coordination of the naval protection provided by the three multinational maritime coalitions and independent navies of several Member States, as well commercial maritime traffic off the coast of Somalia.
The work of the Committee has been facilitated by the contribution of the multinational maritime forces which are deployed in the area pursuant to Security Council resolution 665(1990) as well as the onshore monitoring mechanism operated by Lloyd's Register at the Port of Aqaba in Jordan.
With regard to non-petroleum Iraqi cargo intercepted by the multinational maritime forces, such as dates, the Committee suggested that they be disposed of in a manner consistent with resolution 661(1990) to ensure that Iraq derived no economic benefit from the sale of such cargo.
In accordance with paragraphs 6, 7 and9 of resolution 1846( 2008), during the reporting period, three multinational maritime coalitions have been contributing to the fight against piracy off the coast of Somalia since the adoption of the resolution:( a) European Union Naval Force Operation Atalanta;( b) NATO, using standing maritime forces; and( c) the United States-led Combined Maritime Forces, first using the already-established Combined Task Force( CTF-150) and then establishing CTF-151 in January 2009 to specifically address piracy in the region.
Among the proposals being considered in the subregion to deal with maritime insecurity is the establishment in Malabo of a multinational coordination centre for maritime safety and security.
The Combined Maritime Forces, a multinational naval partnership comprising 29 States, operates three combined task forces.
Two expert groups' hearings were convened in 2000, at which a large number of Governmental experts and representatives of shippers, freight forwarders,insurers, multinational companies, manufacturers, maritime, road, rail and combined transport interests participated.
As a result of joining the WTO andopening up Russian markets to foreigners, there is a threat that multinational insurance companies will have access to work with Russian maritime organizations and the defense industry and participate in the technological development process.
It expressed satisfaction at the continued operation ofjoint patrols by some States since the signing, under the auspices of ECCAS, of the first maritime security plan(SECMAR) and the launching of the multinational coordination centre in Douala.

I have the honour to inform you that my Government has decided that France should withdraw from the multinational interception force established by resolution 665(1990) of 25 August 1990 to carry out maritime inspections in the Gulf of Aqaba.
In paragraph 1(a) of article I of the Agreement on the Military Aspects of the Peace Settlement(annex 1-A to the Peace Agreement), the Security Council is invited to authorize Member States or regional organizations orarrangements to establish a multinational military Implementation Force(IFOR), which will be composed of ground, air and maritime units from the members of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization(NATO) and from non-NATO States.

In this respect,they strongly condemned the acts of piracy which continue to be a serious threat to international maritime safety, particularly in the Horn of Africa, the Indian Ocean region and the Gulf of Guinea, and expressed their firm support for ongoing multinational counterpiracy operations.
International response to the Somali piracy phenomenon include Security Council resolutions 1816(2008) and 1838(2008),which permit States interested in the security of maritime activities to use all necessary means in the fight against piracy in Somali waters, the establishment of the Maritime Security Patrol Area by the multinational naval Combined Task Force 150 in the Gulf of Aden, and the European Union NAVCO anti-piracy initiative.
The institutional and operational measures taken individually andcollectively by our States include the effective implementation of the Yaoundé Agreement of 6 May 2009 on securing the vital maritime interests of the ECCAS States and zone D of the Gulf of Guinea, the continued operation of joint patrols following the signature of the first maritime security plan, and the launch of the multinational coordination centre in Doula and of the Centre régional de sécurisation maritime de l'Afrique centrale in Pointe-Noire.
