The increased requirements reflect an average deployment of 3,045, reflecting full deployment of the authorized strength of 2,690 andphased deployment of 652 proposed additional staff, as compared with phased deployment of an average of 1,411 per month used in the 2005/06 budget estimates.
The statistics on the work for the first two quarters have shown a consistent and ongoing increase in requests for management evaluation, and it is anticipated that the current and projected caseload from peacekeeping missions, together with the strict andtight time frames in place, support the request for the proposed additional staffing resources.
The Committee recommends acceptance of the proposed additional staff for the Building Management Support and Engineering, Joint Movement Control, Aviation Support, Supply, Electronic Support, Electronic Support Services and Transport sections, as shown in the table in paragraph 26 above, including the upgrading from P-4 to P-5 of the post of the Chief of the Transport Section.
The amount of $1,244,500 provides for office supplies($433,000) for all of the DPKO and DFS staff at Headquarters on the basis of updated standard rates, as well as for the rental of photocopiers($173,500), the replacement of worn-out furniture andthe acquisition of furniture for the proposed additional staff $620,000.
An additional amount of $572,800(before recosting)is proposed under the subprogramme for the travel of the proposed additional staff while representing or accompanying the Secretary-General and his Special Representatives and Envoys, undertaking fact-finding, good offices and conflict prevention missions, attending meetings of intergovernmental organizations and participating in conferences and seminars in the areas of prevention, control and resolution of conflicts, peacemaking and peacebuilding.
