Mexico has prepared the revised specific technical guidelines on DDT.

After agreement was reached to develop both general technical guidelines and specific technical guidelines, no detailed conclusions could be drawn at that stage on the differentiation of material between the general guidelines and the specific guidelines. .

The present technical guidelines and the specific technical guidelines are intended to provide a more precise definition of ESM in the context of wastes consisting of, containing or contaminated with POPs, including appropriate treatment and disposal methods for these waste streams.
Invites the lead country or lead countries, if any are selected, or requests the Secretariat, if no lead country is selected andwithin available resources, to prepare, in consultation with the small intersessional working group, first outlines of the new or updated specific technical guidelines for consideration by the Open-ended Working Group at its ninth meeting;
Further requests the Secretariat to submit any new or updated specific technical guidelines referred to in paragraph 1 above, and taking into account comments received at the ninth meeting of the Open-ended Working group, to the Conference of the Parties at its twelfth meeting for its consideration and possible adoption.
The Conference of the Parties also invited the appropriate bodies of the Basel Convention to update, if needed, the general technical guidelines for the environmentally sound management of wastes consisting of, containing or contaminated with persistent organic pollutants andto prepare or update specific technical guidelines developed under the Basel Convention.
In March 2005,the Secretariat engaged a consultant to continue the preparation of the specific technical guidelines on the pesticides aldrin, chlordane, dieldrin, endrin, heptachlor, hexachlorobenzene, mirex and toxaphene, and also on the industrial chemical hexachlorobenzene industrial chemical.
Finally, the Conference of the Parties invited the lead country or lead countries, if any were selected, or the small intersessional working group, if no lead country was selected, to prepare, if possible, first outlines of theupdated general technical guidelines and of new or updated specific technical guidelines for consideration by the Open-ended Working Group at its eighth meeting.
Specific technical guidelines for each of five persistent organic pollutants or groups of persistent organic pollutants: polychlorinated biphenyls(PCBs)- including polychlorinated terphenyls(PCTs) and polybrominated biphenyls(PBBs); dioxins and furans; DDT; hexachlorobenzene(HCB); and the group of six pesticides including aldrin, chlordane, dieldrin, heptachlor, mirex and toxaphene.
Update the general technical guidelines on the environmentally sound management of persistent organic pollutants andprepare or update specific technical guidelines on the chemicals listed in annexes A, B and C to the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants pursuant to decisions SC-4/10- 18 and SC-5/3 of the Conference of the Parties to that Convention.
