Over the past five years,Armenia has been the only State to vote against our amendment, although Armenia itself joined the aforementioned consensus and agreed on that particular language.
The purpose of our amendment in this instance is not to attempt to destroy the substance of the draft resolution but rather to improve it and to bring the text more into line with the realities of the current situation.

Finally, as our amendment has been distributed to the Assembly just this morning, I would ask that the voting on it be postponed until Wednesday, 4 November, which would give Member States ample time to consider it.
Accordingly, we urge all delegations to support our amendment, which is aimed simply at making the draft resolution before us more acceptable to a wider segment of the international community.
As the statement by the President of the General Conference, to which our amendment refers, was accepted by the General Conference by consensus, my delegation proposes that this amendment also be adopted by the General Assembly by consensus, thereby enabling the preservation of the long-standing tradition of adopting by consensus the draft resolution on this important agenda item.
