In particular, the Board requested the secretariat to rephrase item 5 to better reflect the Board's role in the computerization process, to amend item 6 with a reference to training on technical issues such as the approval of vehicles and the possibility to organize a technical training seminar and to add a new item on self-evaluation to the programme of work.
In the context of the discussions on the need to accelerate the computerization process of the TIR procedure, the secretariat informed the Board that letters would be sent to Directors-General of customs and Ministers of Transport of all TIR Contracting Parties, inviting them to attend the fifty-eighth session of AC.2 on 12 June 2014 to, inter alia, share their views and express their support for eTIR.
However, when assessing and reviewing the current state of the mandate for the computerization of the TIR procedure, the Working Party may wish to remember its consideration,made in 2000 at the beginning of its work on the computerization process,"that, whatever system is to be used, the approach taken in computerization of the TIR regime must be courageous and forward looking and should be able to accommodate all possible technological solutions likely to be implemented in the years ahead.
