Intercultural, interreligious and intercivilizational dialogue.
Mr. Javadekar(India): I am deeply honoured and privileged to participate in today's joint debate on the culture of peace, and grateful for the Secretary-General's comprehensive report on intercultural,interreligious and intercivilizational dialogue A/66/280.
Report of the Secretary-General on intercultural, interreligious and intercivilizational dialogue, understanding and cooperation for peace(resolution 66/226);
Takes note of the report of the Secretary-General on intercultural,interreligious and intercivilizational dialogue;
All such existing initiatives in interfaith,intercultural and intercivilizational dialogue have become part of a global network aimed at promoting peace and harmony.
Thus, we have made continuing and varied efforts to promote intercultural and intercivilizational dialogue.

Lastly, I should like to refer to the report of the Secretary-General on intercultural,interreligious and intercivilizational dialogue A/65/269.
The recent report of the Secretary-General on intercultural,interreligious and intercivilizational dialogue(A/65/269) has highlighted the activities of various United Nations entities that contribute to the promotion of dialogue among cultures, civilizations and religions.
It would also be necessary to ensure consistency and common understanding of the concepts of interreligious,intercultural and intercivilizational dialogue.
Report of the Secretary-General on the promotion of interreligious,intercultural and intercivilizational dialogue, understanding and cooperation for peace(resolutions 60/4 and 64/81);
In this regard, Bosnia and Herzegovina welcomes and supports all resolutions that promote intercultural,interreligious and intercivilizational dialogue.
In that regard, the Philippines welcomes the report of the Secretary-General on intercultural,interreligious and intercivilizational dialogue(A/66/280) and the note by the Secretary-General transmitting the UNESCO report on the implementation of the Declaration and Programme of Action on a Culture of Peace A/66/273.
We also wish to thank the Secretary-General, Mr. Ban Ki-moon, for the comprehensive report on intercultural,interreligious and intercivilizational dialogue A/65/269.
In that respect, the Assembly may wish to explore possibilities for harmonizing the reporting of all issues that deal with intercultural,interreligious and intercivilizational dialogue as well as a culture of peace, cultural diversity, tolerance, mutual understanding and rapprochement of cultures, so as to strengthen policy coherence.
And the fifth has to do with reducing the number of conflicts andexpanding mutual understanding and respect through greater interfaith and intercivilizational dialogue.
Please allow me to express our sincere thanks and appreciation to the Secretary-General for his comprehensive report on intercultural,interreligious and intercivilizational dialogue(A/65/269) and to the Director-General of UNESCO for its report entitled"International Decade for a Culture of Peace and Nonviolence for the Children of the World, 2001-2010" A/65/299.
Mr. Kleib(Indonesia): Let me begin by thanking the Secretary-General for his report on intercultural,interreligious and intercivilizational dialogue A/65/269.
To date, in addition to the World Civilization Forum I mentioned earlier,we have hosted the Seminar for Intercivilizational Dialogue with the Islamic World five times, dispatched an exchange and dialogue mission to the Middle East three times, and invited people involved in Islamic boarding schools in Indonesia to visit and speak with people in Japan.
Mr. Apakan(Turkey): It is a great honour for me to address this forum on intercultural,interreligious and intercivilizational dialogue to achieve a culture of peace.
My delegation has read attentively the report of the Secretary-General on intercultural,interreligious and intercivilizational dialogue(A/65/269), and the report submitted by the Director-General of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization regarding the International Decade for a Culture of Peace and Non-violence for the Children of the World, 2001-2010, contained in document A/65/299.
It also condemns extremism in all its forms andmanifestations, while emphasizing intercivilizational dialogue and interreligious dialogue. .
Since then, we have seen a series of resolutions on interfaith, interreligious and intercivilizational dialogue approved by consensus: resolution 60/10, entitled"Promotion of interreligious dialogue and cooperation for peace"; resolutions 61/221, 62/90 and 63/22, jointly introduced by the Philippines and Pakistan from 2006 to 2008; and resolution 64/81, also jointly presented by the Philippines and Pakistan, on the promotion of interreligious and intercultural cooperation for peace.
Affirming the importance of sustaining the process of engaging all stakeholders in the interreligious,intercultural and intercivilizational dialogue within the appropriate initiatives at the various levels.
Mr. Barbalić(Bosnia and Herzegovina): Allow me to begin my statement by thanking the Secretary-General for his comprehensive report on intercultural,interreligious and intercivilizational dialogue A/65/269.
Last May, the fifth ASEM Conference on Counter-Terrorism was held in Japan; participants emphasized the need to engage in intercultural,interreligious and intercivilizational dialogue on the fight against terrorism.
In our draft resolution, we encourage UNESCO, as well as United Nations Member States, other organizations and institutions and civil society, to join the celebration of the Year to demonstrate our firm commitment to interreligious,intercultural and intercivilizational dialogue for peace.

Mr. Salsabili(Islamic Republic of Iran): We are here today for a joint debate on two interrelated agenda items in order to follow up on the progress of our work on the enhanced promotion of a culture of peace and the Global Agenda for Dialogue among Civilizations through interreligious,intercultural and intercivilizational dialogue and cooperation.
Requests the Secretary-General to ensure the systematic and organizational follow-up of all interreligious, intercultural and intercivilizational matters within the United Nations system and overall coordination and coherence in its interreligious,intercultural and intercivilizational dialogue and cooperation efforts, inter alia, through the designation of a focal unit in the Secretariat to handle these matters;
