At those same informal consultations, the Committee considered the interim report of the Panel of Experts, submitted in accordance with paragraph 4(d)of resolution 1731(2006), on the diamond sector in Liberia.
At its informal consultations on 19 June and 31 July, the Committee considered the follow-up to one of the above-mentioned recommendations on which it had previously taken action, andcontinued its discussion of a second recommendation. On 31 July, the Committee also considered the second interim report of the Panel of Experts, dated 20 July 2007.
Following the briefing Council members expressed their appreciation for the work of the Committee and its Chairman, exchanged views on the work of the Committee during that period andnoted with interest the interim report of the Panel of Experts submitted to the Council on 11 November in accordance with paragraph 26(d)of resolution 1874(2009) and the deadline agreed by the Council on 14 September.
Letter dated 16 January(S/2001/49) from the Secretary-General addressed to the President of the Security Council, transmitting the interim report of the Panel of Experts on the Illegal Exploitation of Natural Resources and Other Forms of Wealth of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, submitted by the Chairperson of the Panel, in pursuance of the statement by the President of the Security Council of 2 June 2000 S/PRST/2000/20.
Following the briefing, Council members expressed their appreciation for the work of the Committee and its Chair, exchanged views on the work of the Committee during that period, andnoted with interest the interim report of the Panel of Experts submitted to the Council on 11 November in accordance with paragraph 26(d)of resolution 1874(2009) and the deadline agreed by the Council on 14 September.
At its consultations on 7 and 14 October 2005,the Committee heard a mid-term briefing from and considered the interim report of the Panel of Experts established by resolution 1591(2005) to assist the Committee in monitoring the sanctions measures. On 16 November 2005, the Chairman provided an account of the discussions to the Security Council in a statement which served as the Committee's second 90-day report to the Council in accordance with resolution 1591 2005.
These included the review of the diamonds sanctions against Sierra Leone,the situation in Angola and the interim report of the Panel of Experts on the Illegal Exploitation of Natural Resources and Other Forms of Wealth in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
On 1 August 2007, in response to a letter from the Permanent Representative of the Sudan andpursuant to recommendations contained in the second interim report of the Panel of Experts on the Sudan, submitted under paragraph 2 of resolution 1713(2006), the Committee addressed a letter to the Permanent Representative of the Sudan. On 7 August, again pursuant to recommendations contained in the second interim report, the Committee agreed to include additional identifiers for two individuals on its consolidated list.
At the informal consultations of the whole held on 22 January 2001,the members of the Council took up the interim report of the Panel of Experts on the Illegal Exploitation of Natural Resources and Other Forms of Wealth of the Democratic Republic of the Congo(S/2001/49), which was introduced by the Chairperson of the Panel. .
At those same consultations and at informal consultations held on 20 April and on 9 and 15 May,the Committee discussed the recommendations contained in the first interim report of the Panel of Experts, dated 16 March 2007, and agreed to take action, or consider taking action, on some of them. On 12 June, the Chairman delivered another periodic report to the Security Council, summarizing the activities of the Committee as well as the discussions held in the Committee.

In informal consultations on 6 November, the Committee received an update from the Panel of Experts on its work since the submission of the Panel's interim report in July, and met the new Coordinator and arms expert of the Panel.
On 16 October 2006, upon the request of the Chairperson of the First Committee of the General Assembly, I gave an interim report on the work of the Panel to the Committee.
