Educational institutions may form associations,unions, and other joint bodies.
The workshop,"River Basin Commissions and other Joint Bodies for Transboundary Water Cooperation: Legal and Institutional Aspects", will be held on 23 and 24 September 2013, back to back with the meeting of the Working Group.
To this end, plans are being made to strengthen the governing powers of the Supreme Council and the Executive Committee andclearly regulate the questions of the establishment and competence of other joint bodies.

COORDINATION WITH OTHER JOINT BODIES Activities should be coordinated with other joint bodies in the same catchment area, as well as with relevant joint bodies established for the preservation of the marine environment.
The lead Parties will inform the Working Group about the first of two workshops foreseen in the 2013- 2015 programme of work to promote the exchange of experience and good practices between joint bodies worldwide and to draw lessons learned and recommendations--"River Basin Commissions and other Joint Bodies for Transboundary Water Cooperation: Legal and Institutional Aspects"(23- 24 September 2013)-- and will give an overview of the plans for the second workshop.
Second Workshop: River Basin Commissions and other Joint Bodies: Technical Aspects was held 9-10 April 2014 and focused on specific areas and technical aspects of cooperation in the framework of joint bodies, such as preservation and restoration of ecosystems, water infrastructure, etc.
The lead Parties for the work on the exchange of experience of joint bodies will inform the Working Group about the second of two workshops foreseen in the 2013- 2015 programme of work to promote the exchange of experience and good practices between joint bodies worldwide and to draw lessons learned and recommendations--"River Basin Commissions and other Joint Bodies for Transboundary Water Cooperation: Technical Aspects"(Geneva, 9- 10 April 2014)-- and will give an overview of future plans in this area.
Financial support to river commissions and other joint bodies worldwide is provided, inter alia, by the World Bank, the Global Environmental Facility(GEF), the European Investment Bank, the African Development Bank, the Asian Development Bank, the Islamic Development Bank, the European Commission and by a number of Governments.
It is expected that these recommendations will provide further guidance to countries,river and lake commissions or other joint bodies, and international organizations and institutions to protect transboundary waters, use them in a sustainable way, and cooperate closely at the regional, sub-regional, national, provincial and local levels.
