Urges all States to strive for effective and harmonious international cooperation in carrying out the work of the Agency, pursuant to its statute, in promoting the use of nuclear energy and the application of the necessary measures to strengthen further the safety of nuclear installations and to minimize risks to life, health and the environment,in strengthening technical assistance and cooperation for developing countries, and in ensuring the effectiveness and efficiency of the safeguards systems of the Agency;

The representative of Uganda, speaking on behalf of the African Group,underlined the importance of the Plan for Capacity Building and Technical Cooperation for Developing Countries, especially LDCs, and Economies in Transition in Support of their Participation in the WTO Doha Work Programme, and expressed the hope that the development partners would contribute generously to the full implementation of the plan.
With regard to the plan for"Capacity Building and Technical Cooperation for Developing Countries, especially LDCs, and Economies in Transition in Support of their Participation in the WTO Doha Work Programme"(UNCTAD/RMS/TCS/1), which reflects the specific requirements of the least developed and African countries, the secretariat has initiated a comprehensive work programme in the area of trade facilitation, building on UNCTAD's accumulated experience without negatively affecting its ongoing activities.
The Commission called on UNCTAD to continue and intensify its work on trade and related issues, such as monitoring the post-Doha developments from a development perspective and providing support to developing members of the WTO as appropriate, andwelcomed the plan for"Capacity Building and Technical Cooperation for Developing Countries, Especially LDCs, and Economies in Transition in Support of their Participation in the WTO Doha Work Programme", which responded to the related provisions of Monterrey and the JPOI.
Stresses the importance of continuing and enhancing the implementation of the United Nations Conference on Trade andDevelopment Programme of Capacity-building and Technical Cooperation for Developing Countries, Especially the Least Developed Countries, and Economies in Transition, in Support of their Participation in the World Trade Organization Doha Work Programme, in accordance with the Technical Cooperation Strategy for the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development adopted by the Trade and Development Board at its fiftieth session;
