On 21 July, the Committee held informal consultations with the Monitoring Group to discuss the development of the draft list of individuals and entities pursuant to paragraph 3(e) of resolution 1853(2008). On 29 July, the Chairman of the Committee briefed the Security Council pursuant to paragraph 11(g) of resolution 1844 2008.
On 25 June 2008, the Committee held informal consultations with the Monitoring Group re-established pursuant to resolution 1811(2008) and also discussed the request of the Security Council contained in paragraphs 6 and 7 of resolution 1814(2008) to provide recommendations on specific measures the Council might impose on individuals and entities that block the peace process or breach the arms embargo.
On 21 November, members of the Committee held informal consultations with Government representatives serving on the Trade Policy Review Board and the Committee on Trade and Development of the World Trade Organization(WTO), as well as with staff members of OHCHR and WTO, to discuss potential areas of interaction between the trade and human rights reviews respectively undertaken by WTO and the United Nations system.
In the reporting period, the Committee held informal consultations on 11 April 2008, during which the Chairman discussed with the members possible scenarios for the Committee's future work. On 22 May, the Chairman briefed the Security Council during informal consultations on the Committee's consultations on 11 April, and conveyed the Committee's recommendation that the Council consider dissolving the Committee. .
On 24 March 2006, the Committee held informal consultations to further consider the update report of the Group of Experts(S/2006/204), submitted pursuant to paragraph 2 of resolution 1632(2005), as well as to discuss communications received from Bulgaria, Guinea, Belarus and Togo related to the previous report of the Group of Experts(S/2005/699) and from the Chairman of the Kimberley Process in connection with Côte d'Ivoire's participation in the three-year review of the Kimberley Process Certification Scheme.
In the course of its third session, the Preparatory Committee held informal consultations on the draft chapters contained in document A/CONF.171/PC/5, which resulted in draft texts submitted by the Chairman of Working Group I( for chapters III, XI, XII, XIII, XIV, XV and XVI), the Chairman of Working Group II( for chapters IV, V, VI, VII, VIII, IX and X) and the Chairman of the Preparatory Committee( for chapters I and II). The revised draft texts were issued in documents A/CONF.171/PC/L.3-10 and Add.1 and L. 11-16.
On 23 April 2008, the Committee held informal consultations to discuss the final report of the Monitoring Group submitted in accordance with resolution 1766(2007), and agreed to send letters to the Permanent Representatives of Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Yemen, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and the United Arab Emirates drawing attention to relevant paragraphs in the final report of the Monitoring Group of 24 April 2008(see S/2008/274) and requesting the views of the respective Governments in that regard.
