(FR) I found the compromise on the Thyssen report too lax where safety rules and the presence of chemical substances in toys were concerned.
All the main museums in Madrid are also very close, including the famous Prado Museum, the modern art museum Reina Sofia and the Thyssen Bornemisza.

Commissioner Verheugen, what you have just described as the essence of the Toys Directive- as well as the comments from Mrs Thyssen- we can only underline.
Member of the Commission.- Mr President,let me start by responding to Ms Thyssen on what we are doing to enhance our positive influence on the Chinese market.
Mrs Thyssen worked very methodically in discussions with the Council and the French Presidency and in our Committee on Internal Market and Consumer Protection.
Madrid's Golden Triangle of Art made up of the Prado,Reina Sofia and Thyssen museums is also within easy walking distance so culture vultures can get their fix, too.

In writing.- I voted in favour of the Thyssen report and was pleased to do so, even though procedural matters almost got in the way of the final vote.
On behalf of the Group of the European People's Party(Christian Democrats)- we also provided the rapporteur for the Toys Directive at that time in Marianne Thyssen- I would therefore like to make it clear that we, too, want to achieve and maintain complete protection in respect of all hazardous substances.
The next item is the report by Mrs Thyssen, on behalf of the Committee on the Internal Market and Consumer Protection, on the proposal for a directive of the European Parliament and of the Council on the safety of toys- C6-0039/2008.
Culture vultures can enjoy the best of Madrid's museums,the Prado, Thyssen Bornemiscza and the Reina Sofia, all within 10-20 minutes away on foot, as are the majestic Plaza Cibeles, Retiro Park and Plaza Mayor.
SK I would like to start by thanking Mrs Thyssen, due to whom we have achieved a commendable compromise, as a result of which our children will be protected from undesirable materials in toys and which at the same time will not cause any harm to industrial firms.
