You may read in my Riddles of Philosophy how I described Schelling and Hegel.

I strongly recommend also reading the continuation of Bergman's discussion of Schelling, which is informative, until the end of the volume, where he indicates the connection between Schelling and Rav Kook in a different context.

And we find after all that what was working in isolated spirits of the end of the 18th and first half of the 19th century was, to say the least of it, imbued with a strong spiritual atmosphere, even if it appeared in great abstractions as in Hegel,or in abstract pictures as in the case of Schelling.

Like Kant, Schelling, too, distinguished between the philosophical faculty and the higher faculties,“which, unlike philosophy, were not devoted to the pursuit of truth as such, but to the pursuit of the natural ends of human beings.”17 But as opposed to Kant, Schelling did not take the philosopher's role to be merely critical.
The most notable thinkers in the movement were Johann Gottlieb Fichte,Friedrich Wilhelm Joseph Schelling, Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel, and the members of Jena Romanticism(Friedrich Hölderlin, Novalis, and Karl Wilhelm Friedrich Schlegel).[2] Friedrich Heinrich Jacobi, Gottlob Ernst Schulze, Karl Leonhard Reinhold, Salomon Maimon and Friedrich Schleiermacher also made major contributions.
Or as Schelling put it, imagine if you were a rich-- as you will be-- a rich Chinese, a rich Bolivian, a rich Congolese, in 2100, thinking back on 2005, and saying,"How odd that they cared so much about helping me a little bit through climate change, and cared so fairly little about helping my grandfather and my great grandfather, whom they could have helped so much more, and who needed the help so much more?".
