At its fifth session, held in Vienna from 4 to 15 October 1999, the Ad Hoc Committee had decided to consider at its sixth session articles 4 ter, 17 bis and 20-30 of the revised draft United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime, as well as to continue its first reading of the international legal instruments addressing trafficking in persons, especially women and children, and illegal trafficking in and transporting of migrants, including by sea.

The term“common provisions” may not reflect adequately the matters that the Ad Hoc Committee has decided to address with the review it will undertake at the informal consultations to be organized during its sixth session.

The Ad Hoc Committee welcomed the replies received from Australia, China, Pakistan and Sri Lanka, held an in-depth discussion of those replies, and had decided to include them in its report for the current year. They would certainly provide guidance for the Ad Hoc Committee's work in future.
