Doha Declaration on TRIPS and Public Health.
It reminds us that the absolute priority has to be access to medicines for all sufferers, in accordance with the Doha Declaration.
I do want to confirm that our group is completely behind the Doha Declaration, and I am pleased that the Commission has reiterated this.
The Doha Declaration sets, for the first time ever, the objective of establishing a multilateral framework aimed at improving the conditions for Foreign Direct Investment world-wide.
Once accepted and in force,this amendment will complete a process that began in 2001 with the Doha Declaration on the TRIPS Agreement and Public Health.

The Doha declaration strongly reflects the European Union(EU) calls for increased action in the WTO in favour of sustainable development and for the protection of the environment.

You know that the Doha Declaration on intellectual property rights and public health instructs the WTO Council for TRIPS to find an expeditious solution to the problems facing WTO member countries whose production capacity in the pharmaceuticals sector is insufficient or non-existent or who are experiencing difficulties in the effective use of compulsory licensing.
The best proof of that was in the Doha Declaration on TRIPS and Public Health where the EU led the way in clarifying world trade rules in order to allow the neediest countries access to life-saving medicines at the lowest possible prices.
