The region has also made considerable advances in its use of census data, facilitated by the development of REDATAM(REtrieval of DATa for small Areas by Microcomputer) software. A total of 13 Latin American and4 Caribbean countries currently allow online census data processing over the Internet.

In 2008, four regional workshops were organized by the Division on census data processing, focusing on contemporary technologies for data capture and the methodology and practice of data editing.
Results from the 2010 regular census should become available between April 2011 and 2012,by order of priority: the census data processing programme has six priorities, with data on ethnic groups and nationalities in the country coming fourth on the list.
