The Economic and Social Council decides to establish an ad hoc informal open-ended support group to prepare recommendations and draft a programme for the observance of the International Year of Older Persons in 1999, to be submitted to the in-session working group of the Commission for Social Development at its thirty-fifth session.
I also want to express appreciation for the work of the ad hoc informal open-ended support group established by the Commission for Social Development to prepare for the International Year of Older Persons and the non-governmental organization Committee on Ageing.
At the 12th meeting, on 19 February, the representative of the Dominican Republic, on behalf of the two Coordinators of the ad hoc informal open-ended support group to assist the Commission in the preparations for the International Year of Older Persons, introduced a draft decision(E/CN.5/1998/L.5) recommending that the Economic and Social Council, inter alia, change the name of the support group to the Consultative Group for the International Year of Older Persons.
To change the name of the support group to Consultative Group for the International Year of Older Persons, keeping the informal and open-ended nature of the Group. .

The Special Committee takes note of the report of the informal open-ended working group on enhanced rapidly deployable capacities(A/AC.121/2009/1), which agreed that the concept is currently not viable, given the lack of appropriate financial arrangements and support from Member States for this purpose.

We also support reconvening in 2008 the Ad Hoc Open-ended Informal Working Group to study issues related to conservation and sustainable use of marine biological diversity beyond areas of national jurisdiction.
For those reasons, we fully support the recommendations of the Ad Hoc Open-ended Informal Working Group to study issues relating to the conservation and sustainable use of marine biological diversity beyond areas of national jurisdiction see A/66/119, annex.
In this connection, we would like to express our support for the establishment of the ad hoc and open-ended informal working group envisaged in the draft resolution on oceans and the law of the sea(A/59/L.22) to study issues relating to the conservation and sustainable use of marine biological diversity in areas beyond national jurisdiction.
With the support of the secretariat, the open-ended intergovernmental working group on finance and governance, the extended bureaux of the Commissions and their respective Chairs conducted informal consultations on the matter.
Canada also supports the conclusions of the Ad Hoc Open-ended Informal Working Group on marine biodiversity in areas beyond the limits of national jurisdiction.
Several delegations thus supported the continuation of the ad hoc open-ended informal working group to study issues relating to the conservation and sustainable use of marine biological diversity beyond areas of national jurisdiction.
The European Union has repeatedly and in various forums expressed its concerns over the loss of marine biodiversity and supported the initiative taken by the General Assembly to create an Ad Hoc Open-ended Informal Working Group on the matter.
The European Union supports the decision contained in the draft omnibus resolution to request the Secretary-General to reconvene a meeting of the Ad Hoc Open-ended Informal Working Group established by General Assembly resolution 59/24 to study issues relating to the conservation and sustainable use of marine biological diversity beyond areas of national jurisdiction.
In various forums,the European Union has repeatedly expressed its concerns over the loss of marine biodiversity and has supported both the initiative to create the Ad Hoc Open-ended Informal Working Group and that Group's work.
